Emerald is from a family of gemstones known as the mineral beryl family (The same family as the Aquamarine gemstone) It is the traditional birthstone for the month of May. This beautiful green gemstone is one of the most valuable gems, along with Sapphires, Rubies and Diamonds.

• According to popular belief in ancient Egypt, emeralds could treat eye diseases and short-sightedness.
• Colombia produces the largest number of emeralds in the world, contributing almost 50% of the world’s emerald production.
• The oldest emeralds are around 2.97 billion years old, the first known emeralds were mined in Egypt around 330 BC, possibly earlier.
• A 1-carat emerald appears larger than a 1-carat diamond because of its lower density.
• Emeralds are thought to enhance love and commitment while also promoting healing.
