Let's take another trip down Memory Lane....
As seen on our Facebook & Instagram pages

We were kindly given this silver pocket watch by a very nice Hopper Shopper today which will proudly go into the Hoppers History Vaults.
This Swiss silver pocket watch has the following wording on the dial:

Geo Claypoole
16 Strait Bargate
Boston

Claypoole Jewellers was based in Boston, 16 Strait Bargate. Claypoole's was not only a jewellers and watchmakers, they were also a Pawnbroker and Outfitter. The shop was eventually taken on by Stanley T Hopper in 1926.

George Claypoole can be seen here standing in the doorway. Pre 1926. Note the amazing lamps to the shop front

S.T Hopper jewellers opened in December 1926 by Stanley T Hopper, the son of a Yorkshire jeweller. Some of you may know the original position of the Hoppers shop was 16 Strait Bargate and not 49 Market Place where we are today. So this watch has 'kind of' found its way home! It's amazing to think this pocket watch is over 100 years old and looking good for its age!

This 1950's picture shows S.T.Hopper shop in its original position in 16 Straight Bargate.
